For short-changing energy consumers, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has shut two filling stations, in Ogun State, South-West region, for under-dispensing fuel, and violating extant provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
ConsumerConnect reports the two affected filling stations, Mangarborn Energy and Mobil Filling Station, are located in the Akute/Ajuwon area of Ifo Local Government Area (LGA) of the “Gateway State”.

Olufemi Adebowale, Head of Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure at Abeokuta Field Office of NMDPRA, who noted the market infractions during the enforcement exercise Monday, July 13, 2026, the said the regulatory action was part of the Federal Government’s efforts at protecting consumers from exploitation and ensure strict compliance with petroleum industry guidelines.
Adebowale disclosed investigations indicated that one of the tow filling stations had repeatedly under-dispensed petroleum products, illegally removed official seals placed on its premises, and resumed operations without the regulator’s approval over time.
The top official of NMDPRA also noted: “It is high time we made it clear that they cannot continue to under-dispense products, deliberately remove our seals and believe that nothing will happen.
“That is why we are here to enforce the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.”
He said the Authority had monitored the particular station’s activities since 2025.
The energy company had been sealed at least six times for similar offences, but had continued to violate regulatory directives, ignoring several invitations from the regulator.
Adebowale, however, asserted that the errant stations would remain shut until they met all regulatory requirements, including payment of applicable penalties.
He stated the NMDPRA was also considering suspending the operating licences of the affected stations, subject to management approval.
The NMDPRA top official as well warned filling station operators against under-dispensing fuel or tampering with the authority’s seals.
He emphasised that offenders would face stiff sanctions under the Petroleum Industry Act.
Adebowale further cautioned that any attempt to reopen the sealed facilities or remove the regulator’s seals without authorisation would attract criminal prosecution.
