NCC retains Rudman as Chair, appoints Teniola, Opeke, Uwaje, others as IPv6 Board members

In consonance with a broader industry effort at accelerating Nigeria’s transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has appointed Mr. Olusola Teniola, Director of iPNX, to the newly inaugurated Board of IPv6 Council.

ConsumerConnect reports the NCC disclosed the inauguration of the IPv6 Council, which held in Ikeja, Lagos State capital, recently, underscored the Commission’s renewed commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

IPv6 has been described as a critical enabler of Nigeria’s digital future.

Teniola is joining a distinguished team of industry leaders, including Ms. Funke Opeke; Mr. Muhammed Rudman, Chairman of the Council; Chris Uwaje, Vice Chairman; Mary Uduma; Engr. Gbenga Adebayo; Engr. Lanre Ajayi; and Latif Ladid.

The Board of the West African country’s IPv6 Council also comprises representatives from key regulatory and government institutions in Nigeria.

IPv6 a top priority for Nigeria Digital Economy, says Teniola

In regard to his appointment into the Board, Teniola expressed appreciation to the NCC for the opportunity to serve.

The telecoms expert and former President of ATCON reaffirmed the importance of collaborative action in driving digital transformation in Nigeria.

He also stated: “The transition to IPv6 is no longer a future consideration; it is an immediate priority for Nigeria’s digital economy. “As data consumption grows and emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI become more pervasive, we must ensure that our underlying infrastructure is scalable, secure, and globally competitive.”

The IPv6 Council Board member as well stressed that achieving meaningful IPv6 adoption would require strong alignment across stakeholders, including telecoms operators, Internet service providers, enterprises, academia, and government.

Therefore, Teniola’s appointment to the IPv6 Council Board is said to have reflected ipNX’s continued commitment to shaping Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and advancing the development of resilient, future-ready network infrastructure.

Teniola further said: “This is a collective responsibility.

“We must invest in capacity building, drive awareness, and create the right policy and regulatory environment to accelerate adoption.

“Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind in an increasingly connected world.”

Key responsibilities of IPv6 Council Board

The IPv6 Council Board has the primary responsibility to develop and oversee the implementation of a national IPv6 strategy.

It will also monitor progress, and provide periodic updates on adoption levels across the country.

The IPv6 Council will also play a key role in addressing communication infrastructure challenges, strengthening technical expertise, and recommending policy incentives to support nationwide deployment.
