Nigeria deepening investments in telecoms, tech and digital transformation — Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has said telecommunications remains one of the most important drivers of modern economic growth and Nigerian economy.

ConsumerConnect reports President Tinubu stated this Friday, May 29, 2026, in his statement on the occasion of the 3rd Anniversary of his administration in the West African country.

Tinubu assumed office, after a swearing-in ceremony, in Abuja, FCT, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces May 29, 2023, taking over the reins of governance from late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President also assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would continue to increase investments in digital skills, technical education and innovation to strengthen the emerging Nigeria Digital Economy.

The Nigerian leader said these policy decisions are in consonance with the current administration’s commitment to deepening telecoms access and investment, boosting Broadband penetration as well as digital transformation,

He also noted: “We also took decisive action to stabilise the telecommunications sector, which remains one of the most important drivers of modern economic growth.”

According to him, after years of severe operational pressures and declining investment, confidence is gradually returning to the all-important sector of the Nigerian economy.

Telcos investing in infrastructure, expanding networks

The Nigerian President, in his 3rd Anniversary speech, underscored the vital contributions of telecoms to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and quantum leap the country has recorded in second access and investments in the past three years.

Tinubu affirmed that telecoms operators are expanding networks, investing in infrastructure, recruiting Nigerian talent, and widening digital access across the African country.

“A connected Nigeria is a more competitive Nigeria. “Digital infrastructure is now essential to commerce, education, innovation, and national productivity,” said he in the statement.

Expatiating on the strategic importance of continued investments in Nigerian youths, technology and digital transformation, President Tinubu said: “To our young people, I want you to know this nation believes in you. “You are not a problem to be managed. You are the engine of Nigeria’s future.”

He equally explained that across technology, manufacturing, creative industries, agriculture, sports, and entrepreneurship, his administration is “expanding opportunities for you to compete and succeed.”

The President said: “We are investing in digital skills, technical education, innovation, student financing, and enterprise support because the future must be driven by Nigerian talent, creativity, and productivity.”

Besides, in his statement Friday, Tinubu enumerated his administration’s strides in other sectors of the economy, including empowering millions of Nigerians in agriculture, education, housing security, and most important, national unity in the last three years.

‘Nigeria belongs to all of us’

Waxing philosophical in his statement, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to heed the call to what he described as national purpose.

He stated: “The journey of national renewal is not completed in a single year or a single administration’s tenure.

“Nations rise when their people remain united in purpose, disciplined in effort, and hopeful about the future.”

The President asserted: “We must choose hope over despair, unity over division, and nation-building over narrow interests.”

Tinubu emphasised that true security and prosperity, however, require that every Nigerian feel included and valued. ” “Nigeria belongs to all of us—no region, faith, or group should feel marginalised or forgotten.

Our diversity is a source of strength,” he declared.

Going forward, the Nigerian leader reminded the citizenry: “The work ahead is enormous, but I remain optimistic because I believe deeply in this country and in you, the Nigerian people.

“I ask you to keep faith with Nigeria. Let us reject cynicism and division.”

The President as well urged fellow citizens: “Let us move forward together, united in purpose, disciplined in effort, compassionate toward one another, and confident in the greatness that lies ahead.

“My fellow Nigerians, history tests nations before it elevates them. Nigeria is passing through such a test.”

Tinubu averred: “But I believe with all my heart that we shall emerge stronger, fairer, more united, and more prosperous than ever before.

“Let us continue this journey together. Let us build a Nigeria that is secure, prosperous, inclusive, and respected worldwide.”[
