{"id":5098,"date":"2026-10-11T00:07:17","date_gmt":"2026-10-11T00:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=5098"},"modified":"2026-10-11T02:46:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-11T02:46:31","slug":"travellers-lament-urge-ncaa-to-sanction-air-peace-united-nigeria-valuejet-over-frequent-flight-delays-cancellations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=5098","title":{"rendered":"Travellers lament, urge NCAA to sanction Air Peace, United Nigeria, ValueJet over frequent flight delays, cancellations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>*<strong><em>Air passengers, l<strong>egal<\/strong> professionals, critics, and other&nbsp; Nigerian urge the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to strictly enforce extant NCAA regulations against erring airlines regarding passenger care, timely communication, and mandatory compensation or refunds to affected domestic travellers across the country<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Isola Moses | ConsumerConnect<\/p>\n<p>Scores of Nigerian air travellers have expressed deep frustrations over persistent flight delays, and cancellations that have overcrowded departure halls at major aviation hubs, such as Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), in Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), in Abuja, FCT.<\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> reports&nbsp; the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) latest data indicated that about nearly 60 percent of domestic flights, including 4,801 out of 7,961 recorded in a single month, have suffered significant delays or cancellations across the West African country.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"LxivMNe70G\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=5111\">Digital Connectivity: Nigeria&#8217;s 90,000km fibre optic project gets underway across 36 states<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cDigital Connectivity: Nigeria\u2019s 90,000km fibre optic project gets underway across 36 states\u201d \u2014 Consumer Experience Is A Top Priority\" src=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=5111&amp;embed=true#?secret=fWHXvMXpVp#?secret=LxivMNe70G\" data-secret=\"LxivMNe70G\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that some affected leading domestic airlines, including Air Peace, United Nigeria, and ValueJet have recorded the highest numbers of delayed and disrupted flights with some passengers stranded for over 24 hours in some cases.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the NCAA, in its &#8220;Summary of Domestic Airline Flight Disruptions Operations for August&#8221;, had said of the total 4,801 disruptions out of 7,961 operated flights, Air Peace recorded the highest number of disruptions, with 1,337 delayed or cancelled flights out of 1,864 operated during the month.<\/p>\n<p>United Nigeria Airlines delayed or cancelled 951 of its 1,231 operated flights, while Enugu State-owned Enugu Air recorded 586 disruptions out of 878 operated flights.<\/p>\n<p>ValueJet disrupted 438 of its 767 operated flights.<\/p>\n<p>Akwa Ibom State-owned Ibom Air recorded 257 disruptions out of 560 operated flights, while Arik operated 301 flights, of which 188 were delayed and one was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Still, recent visits to departure halls at several airports across Nigeria showed crowded scenarios with many stranded and delayed passengers wearing long faces.<\/p>\n<p>At the domestic terminals of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, earlier in the week, in Ikeja, Lagos, passengers waited for updates on delayed flights.<\/p>\n<p>Also, at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, FCT, Tuesday, October 6, 2026, for instance, the departure hall was filled to capacity, as air travellers expressed concern over the frequency of flight disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Eze, one of the affected passengers, said his flight had been delayed both on his journey from Lagos to Abuja and on his return trip.<\/p>\n<p>The traveller told Saturday Vanguard: \u201cMy flight was delayed while I was going to Abuja from Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was delayed as I am returning. I am stressed, honestly. And I am not alone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Delay announcements are many, about four in two hours today. Terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeremiah, another concerned passenger,&nbsp; whose flight from Warri, in Delta State, to Lagos was disrupted last Sunday, said he was forced to spend additional money after the flight was rescheduled to the following day, report said.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremiah lamented: \u201cI had to part away with another money after my flight scheduled for 5p.m. on Sunday was shifted to the next day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I needed to be in Lagos by 9am on Monday because I had an important meeting to attend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recently, another passenger simply identified as Segalink, also wrote on X, formerly Twitter, to express frustration over a prolonged delay on an Air Peace flight from Asaba to Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Segalink said: \u201cAir Peace is interesting. Flight P47863 from Asaba to Lagos which was scheduled to depart at 15:00 on 26\/09\/2026 kept being rescheduled allegedly due to maintenance and the majority of the passengers slept at the airport in the hope of flying only to be told around 12a.m. that they would fly by 5a.m. this morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, that promise wasn\u2019t fulfilled until almost 9a.m. today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The traveller also commented: &#8220;These were passengers who bought tickets for a 10a.m. flight originally from Asaba to Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No refreshments or hotel accommodation were provided.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Is this how we will continue? These are folks who will not permit you to board if you are 15 minutes late to the counter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implications of flight delays, cancellations on travellers <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regarding far-reaching implications of alleged frequent flight delays and cancellations on affected passengers, some travellers have reported missing critical job interviews, medical appointments, and business meetings, with high-profile and ordinary passengers alike forced to sleep on cold airport chairs or abandon flights for risky road journeys at such times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On mounting regulatory concerns <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigerians, however, have cited regulatory concerns about recurring flight delays and cancellations.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, critics and legal practitioners are piling pressure on the NCAA to strictly enforce the extant Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations regarding passenger care, timely communication, and mandatory compensation or refunds to affected air travellers in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to such sweeping criticisms against their operations, the domestic airlines have faulted the statistics.<\/p>\n<p>The airline operators reportedly said factors beyond their control were responsible for such frequent disruptions in the Nigerian aviation industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*Air passengers, legal professionals, critics, and other&nbsp;
