Effiong<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alexander Davis | ConsumerConnect<\/p>\n<p>In compliance with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority&#8217;s (NCAA) recent directive to that effect, Air Peace has offered Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer and human rights activist, a 25 percent discount on a one-way ticket across its domestic routes as compensation for a delayed Lagos-Enugu flight.<\/p>\n<p>Effiong disclosed this in a post on his X account Wednesday, September 23, 2026, sharing a copy of an e-mail he received from the airline\u2019s call centre.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"6Uhwi6ugl3\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=4515\">InFocus: UN Security Council and Big Techs&#8217; concerns about risks of &#8216;uncontrollable marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> had reported the NCAA directed Air Peace to compensate the lawyer, and other affected passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The Authority said its preliminary investigation found that the airline sent them a wrong notification ahead of the flight, which was scheduled to depart Lagos for Enugu, South-East Nigeria, at 6:45a.m. Monday, September 21.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Air Peace compensates Effiong, other passengers <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The airline, in the sighted e-mail, apologised for the disruption of flight P47100 from Lagos to Enugu on September 21.<\/p>\n<p>Air Peace also announced that it approved a discounted ticket, excluding tax, as a compensation for the inconvenience.<\/p>\n<p>It stated: \u201cTo claim the ticket, please send an e-mail to callcenter@flyairpeace.com with your old booking reference, scanned copy of your travel passport, and details of your new flight itinerary (route, date and time).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the airline, the offer extended to Effiong would be valid for six months from the date of the e-mail, excluding the period between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The genesis <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Effiong had accused Air Peace of irresponsibility in handling aviation consumer issues in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The air passenger explained that he arrived at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, in Lagos, at about 5:50a.m. for the flight.<\/p>\n<p>Effiong related that he along with other passengers, was however, told to wait, and the scheduled flight was eventually delayed till 4:50p.m.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the flight disruption caused him to miss a scheduled court appearance in Enugu State.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the development, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, subsequently, confirmed that the delay was a ripple effect of an earlier disruption Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>Achimugu later directed the airline to compensate all affected passengers in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the compensation offer by the airline, Effiong said the gesture yet did not address what he described as the airline\u2019s recurring poor service culture.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer wrote: \u201cThis modest effort by Air Peace to assuage me, and other aggrieved passengers should not detract from the fundamental issue, namely: the perennial lackluster, arrogant and frustrating attitude of the company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commendation for NCAA on consumer protection <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Effiong has applauded the NCAA for the Authority&#8217;s swift response through Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.<\/p>\n<p>The affected consumer of the airline&#8217;s service, however, insisted that a stronger regulatory framework is required to protect air passengers\u2019 rights in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He noted: \u201cWhile the swift response of Mike Achimugu and NCAA in this case are commendable, there is no doubt that we need a stiffer and stronger regulatory framework in the
