visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cChild Online Protection: Nigeria moves to regulate under-16 Internet access over cyberthreats\u201d \u2014 Consumer Experience Is A Top Priority\" src=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=4158&amp;embed=true#?secret=l6Q2NqIxrA#?secret=b74bW2QFIN\" data-secret=\"b74bW2QFIN\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> gathered Bawa Usman Kaltungo, Acting Zonal Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 and Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), noted this Thursday, September 10, 2026, during a meeting with a delegation from the United States (US) Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Maccain, Assistant Law Enforcement Attach\u00e9 at the FBI, led the delegation during the courtesy visit to the EFCC Zonal Office, in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Competent sources indicated the discussion between the the EFCC and FBI officials centred on strengthening cooperation between both organisations in investigating alleged financial irregularities involving organisations that received funds under programmes supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), specifically HIV and Tuberculosis interventions.<\/p>\n<p>Maccain said the visit followed some concerns after the US Government under President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration discontinued some USAID-supported programmes 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI Assistant Law Enforcement Attach\u00e9 also said the termination of these health programmes in Nigeria, and other beneficiary countries raised questions about how implementing organisations the managed funds that remained after the projects were halted.<\/p>\n<p>It is equally suggested that some organisations are being suspected of mismanaging, or diverting funds allocated to them before the United States Government discontinued the programmes last year.<\/p>\n<p>Maccain further averred: \u201cWe are seeking stronger engagement with the EFCC to establish how the funds were managed and identify possible financial misconduct arising from the termination of the programmes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Kennon, a Special Agent with the Office of Inspector-General, United States Department of State, who also spoke during the engagement, said the US and Nigerian Governments had previously agreed to fund organisations implementing HIV and Tuberculosis-related programmes in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Kennon said that some of those organisations had set up one-stop centres for HIV treatment under the initiatives in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The top official of the Office of Inspector-General, US Department of State further disclosed that subsequent reviews of the activities revealed concerns about &#8220;inflated budgets&#8221;, and other &#8220;financial irregularities&#8221;, especially in Kano State, and several other regions in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He also stressed that such issues were not exclusive to Nigeria, affirming that similar problems have been identified in other economies worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The US investigator expressed interest in developing a long-term working relationship with the EFCC, including reciprocal intelligence sharing.<\/p>\n<p>Kennon said: \u201cWe\u2019d like to work with the EFCC on this on a long-term basis, and we\u2019ll be sharing information with you; not just getting information from you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the FBI delegation&#8217;s visit, Kaltungo on behalf of Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of EFCC, described Nigeria-US law enforcement cooperation as longstanding.<\/p>\n<p>He assured the delegation that the Commission would undertake a coordinated investigation into allegations of diversion or mismanagement of USAID funds nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Kaltungo also assured that investigators would follow the financial trail to establish how exactly the funds were spent, whether they were used for their intended purposes, and whether any portion was mismanaged or diverted after programme cancellations.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC top official restated: \u201cWe will trace the funds to their ultimate beneficiaries and establish how the money was spent;
