announced its discontinuation of routine visa applications processing, directing applicants to the US Consulate General in Lagos for such services henceforth.<\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> reports&nbsp; the US Embassy disclosed this development followed the US Department of State\u2019s decision to realign routine visa operations across Africa to designated regional hubs, including Lagos, among others on the continent.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"pglzpXNunA\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=3993\">Alake to OAU: Harness mineral, alongside other centres across Africa, including Accra, Abidjan, Addis Ababa, Dakar, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Yaound\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>The Department also explained the move is aimed at strengthening national security through more uniform screening, vetting and adjudication standards, while also improving efficiency in visa application processing.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the move in a reminder shared on its official X account, the US Embassy in Nigeria stated&nbsp; that the new arrangement took effect August 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Embassy said: \u201cRoutine visa services are only available at the Consulate General in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Effective August 1, 2026, U.S. Embassy Abuja no longer processes routine visa applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It, however, clarified that applicants, who already had scheduled appointments would still be attended to, although some appointments might have been rescheduled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll applicants who already have scheduled appointments will be honored; however, those dates may have been rescheduled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those with appointments in Abuja should check their e-mail for their new appointment date,\u201d the embassy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Mission also said applicants with unused and still-valid MRV visa application fee receipts could use them to schedule new appointments at the US Consulate in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, applicants holding an unused and still-valid MRV (visa application) fee receipt may use it to schedule a new appointment at U.S. Consulate Lagos,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The development followed the US Department of State\u2019s decision to realign routine visa operations across Africa to designated regional hubs.<\/p>\n<p>The Department said the move was aimed at strengthening national security through more uniform screening, vetting and adjudication standards, while also improving efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Lagos was designated as Nigeria\u2019s regional visa hub under the new arrangement, alongside other centres including Accra, Abidjan, Addis Ababa, Dakar, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Yaound\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Official: Relocation of routine visa processing to Lagos not closure of Abuja Embassy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is recalled that the US Government had stated that the change affects only routine visa processing, and does not amount to the closure of the Abuja Embassy, in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>It was also gathered the US State Department said the realignment covered both routine non-immigrant and immigrant visa services, including tourist and business-related visas,
