{"id":3383,"date":"2026-08-21T21:54:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T21:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=3383"},"modified":"2026-08-21T22:50:42","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T22:50:42","slug":"safe-driving-dangote-transport-unveils-novel-real-time-driver-monitoring-control-room","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=3383","title":{"rendered":"Safe Driving: Dangote transport unveils novel real-time driver monitoring control room"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>*<strong><em>Dangote Transport launches a state-of-the-art Driver Monitoring Control Room, disclosing the facility allows drivers operating Dangote Group&#8217;s trucks to be monitored in real time while on transit across Nigeria<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Isola Moses | ConsumerConnect<\/p>\n<p>Dangote Transport has taken another major step towards improving road safety with the launch of a state-of-the-art Driver Monitoring Control Room.<\/p>\n<p>The company noted the new Driver Monitoring Control Room allows drivers operating Dangote Group&#8217;s trucks to be monitored in real time while on transit across the length and breadth of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"e5odRsKsgN\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=3393\">Corruption: Tinubu directs arrest of 1, suspension of 3 Perm Secs as ICPC uncovers another \u2018fake\u2019 agency<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cCorruption: Tinubu directs arrest of 1, suspension of 3 Perm Secs as ICPC uncovers another \u2018fake\u2019 agency\u201d \u2014 Consumer Experience Is A Top Priority\" src=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=3393&amp;embed=true#?secret=ANDiEyEqjd#?secret=e5odRsKsgN\" data-secret=\"e5odRsKsgN\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The conglomerate disclosed the innovative facility, located at the Dangote Transport operational base, at Ibese, in Ogun State, was recently showcased to reporters during a guided tour of the transport operations centre.<\/p>\n<p>The officials highlighted the company&#8217;s commitment to leveraging technology and best practices to reduce road accidents and improve drivers\u2019 behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the facility tour, Mr. David Idiege, Head of Operations, Dangote Transport, Ibese, described the Driver Monitoring Control Room as one of the latest additions to the company&#8217;s comprehensive safety architecture in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the facility enables transport control personnel to observe drivers while they are on the road, monitor compliance with safety standards and promptly intervene whenever risky behaviour is detected.<\/p>\n<p>Francis Awowole, Media Relations Officer, Group Branding and Communications Unit at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), in a statement, noted Idiege also said: &#8220;We are constantly looking for innovative ways to strengthen safety across our transport operations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Driver Monitoring Control Room represents another significant milestone in our efforts to ensure that all journeys are conducted safely and responsibly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Operations, Dangote Transport, Ibese, explained that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing accidents, enhancing operational efficiency, and safeguarding both the drivers and other road users.<\/p>\n<p>He further said: &#8220;Safety remains our highest priority.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognise the responsibility that comes with operating a large fleet of vehicles across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is why we continue to invest heavily in technology, systems and training that help us maintain the highest safety standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Idiege stated that the company has, over the years, implemented several safety measures designed to improve driver performance and minimise risks on the road.<\/p>\n<p>He listed these initiatives to include speed limiters, vehicle immobilisers, speed boosters control systems, facial recognition devices, journey management protocols, mandatory drug and alcohol testing, compulsory rest periods for drivers, periodic recertification as well as regular training and retraining programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Operations of Dangote Transport said: &#8220;Our approach is holistic. Technology alone is not enough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We combine technology with strict operational procedures, driver welfare programmes, competency assessments, recertification exercises and continuous capacity building to ensure that our drivers remain professional and safety-conscious at all times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He further explained that compulsory rest policies help combat fatigue, one of the leading causes of road accidents globally.<\/p>\n<p>Idiege asserted: &#8220;We do not encourage driver fatigue. Every driver is required to comply with our journey management procedures and mandatory rest schedules. We understand that alert and healthy drivers make safer decisions on the road.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking during the tour, Mr. Ifeanyi Ezeala, Head of Transport Control,&nbsp; who conducted journalists around the control facility, explained that the on-board camera system installed across thousands of Dangote trucks was facilitated by technology partner Nova Tracks.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ezeala, the camera system enables real-time visibility into driver conduct and provides transportation managers with critical information needed to proactively address safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;The technology allows us to monitor driver activities while journeys are in progress.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cameras provide live feeds and alerts, helping us detect behaviours that could compromise safety and enabling us to take immediate corrective action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the monitoring solution is not intended to police drivers but rather to support them and ensure they operate under safer conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Ezeala explained: &#8220;Our objective is preventive rather than punitive.
