{"id":2917,"date":"2026-08-07T22:55:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T22:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=2917"},"modified":"2026-08-07T23:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T23:11:09","slug":"economy-it-regulator-uniabuja-to-drive-tech-innovation-research-for-inclusive-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=2917","title":{"rendered":"Economy: IT Regulator, UniAbuja to drive tech innovation, research for inclusive growth in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>*<strong><em>The National Information Technology Development Agency and Yakubu Gowon University (UniAbuja) collaborate to advance integrated research across Nigerian Universities to develop tech-driven solutions to real-life local problems across various sectors of the Nigerian economy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alexander Davis | ConsumerConnect<\/p>\n<p>The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has affirmed its commitment to advancing integrated research across Nigerian Universities to develop technology-driven solutions that solve real-life local problems across various sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> reports NITDA said the decisive move was to align academic research with the burgeoning Nigeria Digital Economy agenda.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"KWnFzg05xf\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=2892\">PFIPC Probe: &#8216;Fake appointment letter&#8217; didn&#8217;t originate from Presidency, Adeyemi to face prosecution &#8211;ICPC<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cPFIPC Probe: \u2018Fake appointment letter\u2019 didn\u2019t originate from Presidency, Adeyemi to face prosecution \u2013ICPC\u201d \u2014 Consumer Experience Is A Top Priority\" src=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=2892&amp;embed=true#?secret=A12n8m3WcK#?secret=KWnFzg05xf\" data-secret=\"KWnFzg05xf\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, stated when the Management team of Yakubu Gowon University (UniAbuja).<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, Vice-Chancellor of the University, led the delegation that paid a familiarisation visit to the agency&#8217;s corporate headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.<\/p>\n<p>Inuwa emphasised that NITDA is ready to partner with Yakubu Gowon University (UniAbuja), and other tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General noted such partnerships are critical to nurturing innovation ecosystems, equipping citizens with practical skills, and positioning Nigeria as a hub for technology-driven development.<\/p>\n<p>He further highlighted the importance of increased investment in research as the foundation for leveraging emerging technologies to foster inclusive economic growth and technological innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The IT sector regulatory agency said Inuwa stated: &#8220;We need to invest more in in-depth research with universities to build a robust research ecosystem that will help us develop solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Research will focus on harnessing AI, IoT, Blockchain, cybersecurity, and Cloud technology, among other emerging technologies, to improve our lives and grow our digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NITDA has a vision to make Nigeria a digitally empowered nation. You (UniAbuja) are the talent factory, and we cannot achieve our vision without talented Nigerians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also said: &#8220;The only way to achieve that is working with institutions like yours. So, we need to build talent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can work together to explore ways of introducing AI across the board as a general study course in tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Elements of AI should be included in every field of study to equip our students with the hands-on skills for navigating the real world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to NITDA Chief, the agency is currently in partnership with education sector institutions including the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Inuwa reiterated NITDA&#8217;s ongoing efforts at incorporating digital literacy programmes into the curriculum across all levels of education to enhance graduates&#8217; readiness to fit into industry.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Prof. Fawehinmi, Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University (UniAbuja), explained that the purpose of their visit was to seek NITDA&#8217;s partnership and support to improve digital infrastructure for educational training within the institution.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed gratitude for NITDA&#8217;s contributions to the Digital Geoscience Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice-Chancellor assured that the institution of higher learning is eager to partner with NITDA in joint research projects, capacity-building initiatives, and innovation programmes that align with the agency&#8217;s vision of leveraging technology to drive socio-economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>Fawehinmi stated: &#8220;We could go into partnership with you to provide data, collaborative engagements, staff exchanges, joint research hubs, so that we can produce high-level human resources.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The University is committed to serving as a strategic
