{"id":1147,"date":"2026-06-24T23:13:58","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T23:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=1147"},"modified":"2026-06-24T23:52:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T23:52:37","slug":"dangote-refinery-claims-on-pms-export-re-importation-false-and-misleading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=1147","title":{"rendered":"Dangote Refinery: Claims on PMS export, re-importation false and misleading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>*<strong><em>The Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, Lagos, dismiss the circulation of claims suggesting that the company&#8217;s petroleum products are exported to Lom\u00e9, and subsequently, re-imported into Nigeria as unfounded and misleading<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Isola Moses | ConsumerConnect<\/p>\n<p>The Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, Lagos, have said they noted with concern the circulation of unfounded and misleading claims suggesting that the company&#8217;s petroleum products are exported to Lom\u00e9, and subsequently, re-imported into Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Dangote Refinery, in a statement, said as a matter of policy, the company does not ordinarily engage with baseless and unsubstantiated allegations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"NvJNzghj7y\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=1127\">CNII: Nigeria Police arrest 4 suspected telecoms infrastructure vandals in Oyo<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201cCNII: Nigeria Police arrest 4 suspected telecoms infrastructure vandals in Oyo\u201d \u2014 Consumer Experience Is A Top Priority\" src=\"https:\/\/consumerconnectng.com\/?p=1127&amp;embed=true#?secret=QbNaoLNSbm#?secret=NvJNzghj7y\" data-secret=\"NvJNzghj7y\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The oil-refining facility, however, noted that in the interest of transparency and to set the record straight.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also noted the Management considered it necessary to address this deliberate misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Management states unequivocally that the allegation is not supported by verifiable trade data, commercial logic, or the operational realities of Dangote Refinery.<\/p>\n<p>The oil-refining facility restated that its core mandate is to strengthen domestic supply and remain a leading provider of petroleum products in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The statement noted that any practice that enables imports to compete directly with its own production clearly contradicts this objective. &#8220;Accordingly, Management confirms that all sales contracts and tender agreements expressly prohibit the resale or re-importation of Dangote Refinery products into Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Furthermore, Management emphasises that the economics of the purported trade route are fundamentally flawed,&#8221; the statement noted.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dangote Refinery, estimated logistics costs for transporting products from the refinery to Lom\u00e9 and back into Nigeria range between US$82\u201390 per metric ton.<\/p>\n<p>It explained that such additional costs would significantly erode margins and render the transaction commercially unviable.<\/p>\n<p>The statement declared: \u201cDangote Refinery does not provide export discounts sufficient to offset these costs or create arbitrage opportunities between export and domestic markets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Simply put, no rational producer would incur additional shipping, storage, financing, and handling costs only for products to re-enter and compete in its primary market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Management also highlights that the refinery maintains stringent product traceability protocols, including detailed records of lifting points, nominated vessels, counterparties, and declared destinations. These measures ensure full visibility and accountability across the supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>The statement insisted that any &#8220;claim suggesting that the refinery facilitates or tolerates re-importation is inconsistent with its contractual safeguards and established compliance standards.<\/p>\n<p>The refinery has consistently advocated for reducing Nigeria\u2019s dependence on imported petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>Management underscores that encouraging or enabling re-importation would undermine local refining efforts, strain foreign exchange reserves, and weaken national industrial growth, positions that are contrary to its core objectives.<\/p>\n<p>Management reiterates that there is no strategic, economic, or operational basis for the claim that Dangote Refinery exports products for re-importation into Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The allegation is entirely unfounded and does not withstand scrutiny when measured against market logic, contractual frameworks, and industry practices.<\/p>\n<p>The statement concluded that \u201cDangote Refinery remains focused on its mission to enhance energy security, support local refining, and contribute meaningfully to Africa\u2019s
