North-West state, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has flagged off the 2026 Annual Mass Livestock Vaccination Exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The Katsina State Government said the exercise was aimed at preventing and controlling major infectious diseases affecting cattle, sheep and goats across the state.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"7aIY2nX6Pd\"><p><a marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>ConsumerConnect<\/em> reports the event held Monday, June 22, 2026, at Shifdawa Fulani Village, in Batagarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.<\/p>\n<p>It is noted the ceremony marked the commencement of a statewide vaccination campaign against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia, Foot and Mouth Disease, and Peste-des-Petits Ruminants.<\/p>\n<p>Underscoring the strategic importance of the exercise, Governor Radda described the initiative as a significant step to protect animal health, improve livestock productivity and strengthen public health.<\/p>\n<p>The governor reportedly emphasised that livestock production remains a vital pillar of the economy of Katsina State of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He equally affirmed that vaccination remains one of the most effective measures for preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring healthier, more productive livestock populations.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also highlighted Katsina\u2019s rich history in livestock production and trade, recalling the state\u2019s long-standing reputation in animal husbandry and its connection to the famous Moroccan leather once traded across North Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Radda warned that diseases such as CBPP, FMD, and PPR continue to pose serious threats to livestock development by causing high mortality, reducing productivity, and inflicting economic losses on farmers and herders.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the exercise will cover all 361 wards in the state\u2019s 34 local government areas and will last for 18 days, including 12 days of house-to-house vaccination for small ruminants and six days of statewide vaccination against CBPP and FMD.<\/p>\n<p>Katsina\u2019s position as a border state with the Niger Republic, coupled with the constant movement of livestock through transhumance and cross-border trade, makes the vaccination exercise both timely and critical for disease control and public safety, stated Radda.<\/p>\n<p>He as well reiterated his administration\u2019s commitment to strengthening veterinary services, livestock development and agricultural systems in line with global best practices.<\/p>\n<p>The governor used the occasion to commended development partners, including IOM, UNDP and Co-group, for their support.<\/p>\n<p>He urged livestock farmers, herders, traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with vaccination teams to ensure the success of the exercise across the designated wards in Katsina State.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Ahmed Mohammed, Katsina State Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development, in his address at the event, said animal husbandry remains a way of life for several households in Katsina State.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed stressed the importance of sustained vaccination efforts at protecting livestock, improving rural livelihoods, and enhancing food
