In a move to prevent any loss of lives and property, while alerting the populace to the dangers of carrying out commercial activities in the vicinity, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Honourable  Minister for Works and Housing Minister has given artisans and traders doing businesses on the burnt section of the Lagos Airport Road flyover two weeks to vacate the area.

The flyover, which spans the Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonshoki Expressway being repaired, was burnt when a petrol tanker burst into flames January 7, 2021, according to agency report.

The Federal Government, after the incident immediately shut the bridge and, on January 8, warned the public to stay off the Airport Road Flyover, pending the determination of its structural safety to consumers.

During inspection of the bridge, Fashola examined the walls of the burnt piers before going round to educate the traders on the dangers of carrying out further commercial activities in the vicinity, thereby damaging the road.

The Minister was reported to have told the traders that street trading jeopardises their safety and the road at large.

He, therefore, gave the traders and artisans two weeks to vacate the area around the flyover.

He also urged them to relocate to the Matori Industrial Estate at Ladipo, which was purposely built by the Lateef Jakande Government for commercial activities.
