In order to enable them to effectively address the negative impacts of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on their companies, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee have unanimously agreed to extend special facilities to Nigerian-registered airlines and the media industry.

Mr. Isaac Okorafor, Director of Corporate Communications at CBN, disclosed this in a statement Tuesday, August 25, in Abuja, FCT.

Okorafor said Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of CBN, had announced the development while addressing banks’ Chief Executives at the bi-monthly virtual meeting of the Bankers’ Committee Tuesday.

Emefiele urged the banks to do all within their powers to support airlines in the country, said the statement.

Such support, according to the CBN Governor, is critical to helping the industry to recover from the economic crisis occasioned by the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic.

He likewise advised the banks to support the efforts of the media industry at coping with the lingering pandemic in order to avoid massive job losses in the industry.
