AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, psc, fdc, mspsp, MNIM, Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu I CFR D.Sc. (Honoris Causa), LL.B, B.L, MNIM, mni, at his palace at Iga Iduganran, Lagos Island.

ASP Mayegun Aminat, anipr, MNISMA, Police Public Relations Officer at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, in a statement Wednesday, April 15, 2026, said during the visit, the AIG emphasised the importance of drawing from the wealth of experience, wisdom, and guidance of His Royal Majesty towards enhancing quality service delivery to the good people of Lagos State and the nation at large.

The statement noted the visit further underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the Police and the traditional institution.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions in promoting peace, security, and community development, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police for people-centred and community-oriented policing.

The AIG paid homage to the revered monarch and expressed appreciation for the warm reception and royal hospitality extended to him and his entourage. He emphasised the vital role traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and preserving cultural values.

Akpanudom stated the Police would continue to tap into the wisdom and experience of traditional rulers to enhance effective policing.

He further noted that understanding the customs and traditions of the people remains fundamental to effective policing and community engagement.

The Police chief further stressed that the era of “Police versus the people” is long gone, as the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building partnerships based on trust and shared responsibility for the safety and security of all citizens.

He also prayed for the continued peaceful and prosperous reign of His Royal Majesty.

In his response, His Royal Majesty Oba Akiolu commended the Nigeria Police for its efforts at maintaining law and order, and encouraged the AIG and officers under his command to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties.

The royal father also described policing as a noble profession and urged officers to continue serving the public with integrity, fairness, and compassion.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a plaque to His Royal Majesty, reaffirming the commitment of the Police to strengthening collaboration with traditional institutions for the promotion of peace and security.
