NCC, NITDA urge youths to embrace digitisation, tech-innovation as solution providers

In accordance with the current administration’s focus on advancing the Nigeria Digital Economy for sustainable development, the Federal Government has encouraged youths to embrace digitisation, innovation and technology to become solution providers.

ConsumerConnect reports the Nigerian Government has said it trained 900 youths on critical digital skills in emerging areas, in Enugu State, South-East region of the country.

Such critical digital skills in emerging areas include cybersecurity, data science, digital literacy and entrepreneurship.

The government and other top stakeholders stated this at the recent Enugu Tech Festival (ETF) 2026 (ETF 2.0) with the theme, “Coal to Code: Energy in New Form”, held from February 24 to February 27, 2026.

Maida: Digital future requires tech, AI-driven infrastructure

Delivering his goodwill message at the event, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), urged youths to take advantage of all digital training programmes, conferences and inter-connectivity involving tech-innovation.

Maida lauded Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his vision of building the state’s digital future.

Acbueding to the NCC Chief, digital future is based on technology and Artificial Intelligence-driven infrastructure in security, education, administration, judiciary and health in furtherance of digital economy in the state.

The EVC/CEO of the Commission also said: “You must keep supporting your governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his vision and foresight into tech-innovation and encouraging youths to be passionate about digitalisation, tech-innovation and be problem solvers.”

NITDA offers 50 youths digital tools, ‘instruments of transformation’

Speaking on the occasion in Enugu also, Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), disclosed the strategic skills training for the youths was part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Inuwa said affirmed the training initiative was tailored to cultivate talent and digital skills for youth empowerment in the state.

The Director-General of the agency, represented by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Director, Stakeholder Management and Partnership at NITDA, also said of the total 900 trainees, 50 outstanding ones had demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience and excellence.

Inuwa stated: “These 50 young innovators will not just receive digital tools; they will be receiving instruments of transformation.

‘’These tools represent opportunity; they represent empowerment; they represent the confidence that Nigeria believes in them.”

He equally averred: “More importantly, they represent responsibility—the responsibility to build solutions, create value, and to transform communities.

“This is the new energy of Enugu, not coal, but code, not extraction, but innovation, not limitation, but possibility and this is only the beginning.”

Inuwa further assured that NITDA would continue to create pathways for young Nigerians to build globally competitive solutions.

The government also provided platforms like Digital Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition, the largest government-led tech event in Nigeria and GITEX Nigeria, he told the participants in the programme.

The Chief Executive of NITDA noted: “These are some platforms on which innovators can showcase their ideas to global investors, attract funding, and expand beyond national borders.

“The message is clear: your innovation can go global.”

Inuwa added: “To the young people here today, who will be the recipient of these digital tools, I want you to understand something profound; you are not just learning skills, you are shaping the future.”

One of the highlights of the occasion was NITDA’s  presentation of brand-new laptops to 50 trainees that completed their digital training.
