As part of its regulatory measures to drive the West African country’s digital cum economic future, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Monday, January 19, 2026, unveiled the new National Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030, in Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports the telecoms sector regulatory Commission said the fresh spectrum roadmap instrument would be implemented through transparency and predictable spectrum regulation in the ecosystem.

Maida represented at the forum by Atiku Lawal, Head of Spectrum Administration at the Commission, said the regulatory initiative includes the Spectrum Roadmap 2026–2030, Guidelines for opening the lower 6GHz, and 60GHz licence-exempt bands.

The EVC/CEO of NCC also noted that the measures were designed to improve Quality of Service (QoS) across Nigeria.

He stated: “Our national ambitions are growing. We want faster speeds, wider coverage, better service quality, stronger innovation and greater inclusion.

“This roadmap creates a transparent, predictable regulatory environment supporting investment, encouraging innovation, expanding access and improving service quality for all Nigerians.”

He as well said the newly-unveiled spectrum roadmap is more than a technical document.

Maida described the instrument as a strategic blueprint for Nigeria’s digital future.

Spectrum underlines digital life, says Maida

Maida further explained that the lower 6GHz and 60GHz guidelines would unlock new capacity for high-speed, affordable and reliable connectivity in the country.

The NCC Executive Vice-Chairman averred: “Spectrum is behind everything digital we do. Though invisible, it is indispensable to mobile, Broadband, satellite, emergency, and smart technologies.”

Every video call, online classroom, digital transaction and connected device in Nigeria relies on spectrum, said he.

Maida added: “We are preparing Nigeria for future data demands across homes, campuses, businesses, healthcare facilities and public spaces.”

Oshadami: NCC committed to expanding Broadband connectivity

Speaking at the spectrum roadmap stakeholders’ consultation forum Monday, Engr. Abraham Oshadami, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services (ECTS), asserted that spectrum resources must serve every community in Nigeria.

Oshadami stated: “Today’s engagement reaffirms our commitment to expanding wireless Broadband through foresight, fairness and national development goals.”

In her remarks at the event, Dr. Lola Fafore of Huawei Nigeria, who spoke for the company, said the NCC spectrum roadmap would drive innovation, boost broadband penetration and contribute significantly to the national GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
