Consumers to resume flying as Nigeria reopens 5 airports June 21

In view of the recent relaxation of COVID-19 lockdowns to enable Nigerians to resume socio-economic and religious activities in line with defined safety measures, guidelines and protocols in the country, the Federal Government has announced that only five airports will be reopened when domestic flight operations recommence Saturday, June 21, 2020.

ConsumerConnect reports that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in a circular from the Office of the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCAA, dated June 1 with Ref: NCAA /DG/AIR/11/16/121, stated that aside from the five selected airports, all others are to remain closed for further assessment amid the Coronavirus epidemic.

For domestic operations, the airports that will be opened to consumers of air travels are Omagwa International Airport Port Harcourt; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja; Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri; and Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

Nigeria’s airspace remains closed to international flights, as other airports will be gradually added to the network after a review and assessment.

Captain Musa S.Director-GeneralGeneral/CEO, said: “All flights to any airport outside the above five listed airports above shall comply with the existing COVID- 19 protocols for approvals.

“The closure of Nigerian airports to international flights will continue until a date of resumption is announced.

“Emergency and essentials flights are exempted from this restriction and shall comply with the existing COVID-19 protocols for approvals.”
