The Lagos State Government (LASG) has alerted residents of Eti-Osa, Ojo, Badagry, Ikeja, Ikoyi to prepare for very heavy rainfalls, which may induce flash flooding during the week and beyond in the state.

Lekan Shodeinde, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, in a statement issued Tuesday, August 25, 2023, said the state government urged residents to be wary of downpour, especially between August 14 and 18  this year.

The LASG, therefore, urged residents of Apapa, Badagry, Eti Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island and Ojo to prepare for very heavy rainfalls which may result in flash flooding during this period.

Referencing a flood alert advisory the Flood Emergency Warning System (FEWS) Central Hub of the Federal Ministry of the Environment issued earlier, Shodeinde encouraged all residents of listed areas to be vigilant and watchful about rainfalls during and after the stated period.

The Permanent Secretary also advised the residents to be alert to flood plains and low lying areas, and be ready to move upland till the cessation of the rains in such areas.

The statement noted that people and motorists must also refrain from wading through floods, particularly during rainfalls as their is a propensity to be washed away by the intensity of the water.

The warning has become necessary to avoid preventable loss of lives and property that usually accompany such incidents, said Shodeinde.
