Acting on earlier sundry reports of production and circulation of adulterated hand sanitisers in the region, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has revealed it would begin dealing with fake hand sanitiser producers in Ebonyi State of Nigeria.

ConsumerConnect learnt that Dr. Isaac Kolawole, Ebonyi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, disclosed this to journalists following his visit to the Ebonyi State Vocational College, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Dr. Kolawole, on inspecting thousands of hand sanitisers and face masks produced by the college on the directive of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, certified the items for use in the 13 local government areas as a remedy to the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The NAFDAC Coordinator applauded Governor Umahi and the Management of the college for the hygienic nature of the environment, the branding and quality of the sanitisers and face masks which according to him meets international and NAFDAC standards.

Kolawole said: “I have critically assessed all the face masks and sanitisers. They all meet our standards.

“I hereby declare that they should be used by people with efforts expedited to ensure these products get registered soon.”

Mrs. Adaeze Nwaji, Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Vocational Education, on the occasion stated the purpose of embarking on the production of hand sanitisers and face masks is to make sure that rural farmers with no money to buy sanitisers could get the products to avert the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

“The college embarked on the production of these hand sanitisers and face masks as its token of support to the state government with the purpose to fight to finish the ravaging COVID-19.

“No doubt, our governor has shown sincerity of purpose and tenacity in his fight against the coronavirus in the state.

“This is evident when he closed both land and sea borders linking Ebonyi to other states.

Umahi equally ensured the enforcement of the no-mask-no-movement order in the state with intention to forestall entrance of the dreaded coronavirus into the state,” she noted.

Mrs. Nwaji also unveiled the preparedness of the college to start the production of ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres in the state.

“I am optimistic that very soon, we will start producing ventilators that will be used in various quarantine centres,” she said.
