In an economic backward integration of sort and as part of the ongoing efforts curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, the University of Benin (UNIBEN) says it has commenced mass production of liquid soap and hand sanitisers in Nigeria.

It was learnt that Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, Public Relations Officer (PRO), UNIBEN, in a statement said the initiative was part of the proactive measure of Prof. Lillian Salami, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Dr. Ehanire stated that the university has also “procured more infrared thermometer to be deployed at all gates into the university by security personnel who have been trained for the crucial assignment.”

The institution advised that the best-known safety/preventive measure remains strict observance of hygiene, such as regular hand washing.

“Endeavour also to stay at home as directed by government…. If it becomes inevitable for you to go out, please observe the one meter World Health Organisation (WHO) social-distancing recommendation,” Ehanire said in the statement.

Meanwhile, intent on implementing its no mask, no movement policy across the state, Channels TV reports that the Cross River State Government has begun the mass production and distribution of nose masks free of charge to residents of the state.

The production and subsequent distribution of the masks are said to be in accordance with an executive order by Prof. Ben Ayade, Governor, Cross River State, that nobody be allowed in public places without wearing a medical nose mask.

After inspecting the ongoing production of the masks at the factory in company with Dr. Linda Ayade, his wife, the governor disclosed that the gesture is part of efforts at preventing the spread of COVID-19 into Cross River, and a way of reducing burden on the citizenry.
