Following several months of partial closure of the portion of the expressway to allow for reconstruction since August 2019, the Berger/Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is scheduled for reopening to motorists Sunday, March 1.

ConsumerConnect learnt that Mr. Adedamola Kuti, Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, disclosed this Saturday.

According to Mr. Kuti, construction work had been completed on that portion of the road.

He said that the Magboro─The Punch axis would be opened March 7, while the construction zone around Mowe (in Ogun State) would be opened in April this year.

Meanwhile, the Old Toll Gate to Sagamu Interchange will have been completed by the end of April.

It is recalled that Engr. Kuti, who is the Lagos State Director of Works in the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, recently stated that the government was working round the clock to ensure that the roads were opened on schedule.

“When we wanted to begin that project in January, we told the world that we would open the road for public use by February 29, and I can confirm that we are working round the clock to ensure that we fulfill our pledge to open the Kara Bridge section by this weekend,” Kuti said.

He commended Nigerians for their understanding throughout the period of the closure of the all-important, bustling expressway.

It is in acknowledgment of their pains that the government impressed it on the contractor to ensure that the delivery timeline of that section was strictly adhered to, he said.
