The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has clarified that despite the temporary unavailability of the National Identity Number (NIN) Verification Service (NVS) due to maintenance by one of its service providers, the Tokenisation as the alternative platform currently is up and running.

ConsumerConnect reports the national identity regulatory Commission said the NIMC verification platform is not only the NVS, but the agency has provided the alternative that is also working.

Mr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, who confirmed this  development to the publication in an exclusive chat Monday, February 7, 2022, declared “no one should be debarred from any service under the guise of NIN not being verified.”

The Commission’s Spokesman also emphasised the “NIMC verification platform is not only the NVS, but we have provided the alternative.”

According to Mr. Adegoke, the current unavailability of verification and authentication services is not a NIMC problem.

“Rather, a government service provider has embarked on maintenance of its infrastructure, which has affected most government agencies that rely on it for the provision of IT service” in Nigeria.

He further stated: “But for us in NIMC, the Tokenisation is up and running for any verification whatsoever.

Recall the National Identity Management Commission in a statement issued Saturday, February 5, 2022, titled, ‘NIMC NIN Verification Service Temporarily Unavailable’, disclosed that its National Identity Number Verification Service is down due to maintenance being executed by the Commission’s service provider.

The regulatory agency stated: “The National Identity Management Commission wishes to inform the general public that its NIN Verification Service is temporarily unavailable due to the maintenance service being carried out by one of the Commission’s network service providers.

“The NIMC wants to assure the public that verification and authentication services would be restored once the maintenance is concluded.”

It also apologised for the downtime, promising to restore the service while recommending the use of the alternative Tokenisation verification platform made available through the NIMC App.

The statement further noted: “The Commission apologises for any inconveniences this might cause our esteemed customers, and all hands are on deck to ensure speedy restoration.

“Meanwhile, the public can make use of the alternative Tokenisation verification platform.”
