Following the closure of the superstore over sales of suspected fake and expired products weeks back, Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), says a store as the ‘legitimate part’ of the Chinese-owned Panda Supermarket is “back and running” now.

ConsumerConnect gathered that Mr. Babatunde Irukera, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commission, disclosed this in a text message to the News Agency of Nigeria Thursday, in Abuja, FCT.

Mr. Irukera said that Management of the supermarket had been cooperating with the Commission’s investigators to identify their supply chain into the country.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is about to destroy confiscated products from the supermarket, he stated.

Recall that the FCCPC boss led a team to the supermarket in Jabi and Gwarimpa areas of Abuja Tuesday, January 28, the raid which led to the shutdown of the Jabi branch and seizure of some food items in Gwarimpa in the process.

In respect of curbing burning issues of sexual harassment in the nation’s universities in recent times, Irukera said that FCCPC had received nominations from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and law enforcement agencies to set up joint task force (JTF) to address them.

“We have identified some people in the civil society (organisations) who will join the task force.

“We anticipate a meeting of the task force in the coming weeks to develop an intelligence-gathering mechanism and intervention plan.

“This includes an advocacy plan, background checks and key issues in dealing with this,’’ he said.

Earlier, the CEO had urged educational institutions to pursue aggressive initiatives to ensure the eradication of harassment, corruption and other vices from higher institutions of learning in Nigeria.
